At Fitted for Work, our team is getting ready for our busiest year yet. We know now, more than ever, women need our help, especially after experiencing the affects of COVID-19. Empowering women with the right tools, support and confidence to enter employment is vital for women’s economic security and independence.

For the past 16 years, Fitted for Work has helped women navigate disadvantage. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers are experts in helping women identify transferable skills, build resilience, and pivot their career goals. Your donation enables us to provide tailored and impactful support to women on their journey back into employment.

We open our doors to women from all walks of life as we understand that disadvantage impacts everyone differently. We strongly believe that all women deserve economic security and that when you are Fitted for Work, you are fitted for life.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the unemployment rate of women is at 4.7% as of May 2021 (ABS, 2021). As of February 2021, there were 2.2 million people who were not working and wanted to work, only 808,000 registered as looking for work (ABS, 2021).

During the pandemic, women had more to worry about than just losing their job. Not only did caring responsibilities and home schooling increase, the rate of domestic violence also increased. Almost one in four women experienced high or very high levels of psychological distress.

In July, a survey by the Australian Institute of Criminology revealed almost 10% of Australian women in a relationship had experienced domestic violence during the Coronavirus crisis.

Women need our help now more than ever. When women have employment, they have a choice over their lives and power to change their circumstances.

After a 25 year career as a Senior Social Worker, Kiera left a domestic violence situation which affected her job. For the first time in her life, she was unemployed as a single mother with a baby and young child.

Kiera attended Fitted for Works Job Preparation Hub where she worked on her resume and cover letter, as she had not had to update it in 25 years. She also took part in our Online Outfitting service where she received a capsule wardrobe of beautiful, work appropriate clothing.

After accessing our services, Kiera was given the support and confidence that she needed to succeed in her job search and was able to choose between two job offers!
