However, increasingly I think it’s important to not only celebrate milestones but also to use them as an opportunity to reflect and question in a positive way why you do what you do and how you do it.

One significant milestone for Fitted for Work is its 10th Anniversary this year and this is certainly something to celebrate. We should be so proud of what we have achieved. Without Fitted for Work, 20,000 women would not have experienced the compassion, kindness and practical wisdom they needed in some of the darkest moments of their lives. When you then think about the ripple effect that this has had on the children, families and communities of these women, Fitted for Work has indeed made the world a better place.

We commenced the 10th Birthday celebrations in style with two wonderful celebrations where we showcased the work of the talented photographer Rhea McKellar in the exhibition “Every woman has a story…” This series of beautiful portraits captured the courage, vulnerability and resilience of our clients, volunteers, mentors and founders. These photographs are indicative of the many women who have been involved in the organisation, from clients to mentors to founders. We were very fortunate to have The Honourable Bill Shorten MP attend our Melbourne event.  For our Sydney event, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) and his wife Mrs Hurley, welcomed us into their magnificent home, Government House.

This next phase in the life of Fitted for Work is a very exciting one full of opportunity. Together with the Board and the Leadership Team we have been working hard on our Strategic Plan for the next three years, focusing specifically on how we can strengthen our financial sustainability as well as increase the effectiveness and reach of the services we offer to women experiencing disadvantage.

As for me, the last six months have been both exhilarating and full of learning. I feel incredibly supported by both The Board, Fitted for Work Team and, of course, our wonderful volunteers and supporters.  We have some exciting opportunities to share with you over the next 6 months and I look forward to bringing you further details in these updates.

Regards

Donna
